how about a REPORT list. If a player witnesses a AFK Leecher, they add them to the REPORT list with a 1 sentence explanation as to what they did. If enough people use the REPORT list, the leecher is banned for a day and faction removed from his account. This could be coupled with a Active AFK status from Arenanet, meaning Arenanet knows that character is in an active battle arena and has not moved, if people report them , they match the report to the AFK report.
yes jerk teenagers will report people just to try to mess with them but the afk checker would countermand these reports if they player was actively playing and jerks reported them just to be jerks
These AFK players are way out of hand at Fort Aspenwood, especially the bot ones that ping constantly. Say whatever you want but something has to be done about them. They ruin the game economy by collecting free faction and trading it for amber and they ruin the other players chances of getting faction by not particiapating in the match.

I understand the frustration, but the best thing Anet can do is punish individual abusers.

if the bot moved around and died in the area of battle, I would have no problem with it even if it just went out and died by attacking the closest target. Even the act of them having to kill it slows the enemy's progress but just standing there doing nothing but PINGING constantly does no one any good. And people are reporting these users and they are still there every day pinging away. Same ones.

Why should AFK people should be banned for a day or lose an anmount of gold ? Something worse can happen, aslike freaking parents that ask you to come for 10-15minuts .. Ive been afk alot for urgent things and always came back and apogalized

We are not talking about people that do it one time, repeat offenders would be banned. If your parents tell you to do something, click the little X in the top right corner and exit the game. Dont make the other players suffer because you forgot to take the garbage out.

We could make people who go Afk for over 10 minutes be able to be attacked by everyone. They could switch back to their own team in about one second with an icon if they were actually sorry, but if they're a leecher then their team mates are going to attack them.
It's perfect because it gives the team a sense of encouragement. They killed the #$*% leecher! And the leecher gets a punishment and people who aren't actually doing it to get an easy ride are able to switch back to their own teams with the touch of a button and continue playing. If anyone can think of a flaw post it. I really think this is a good idea.

most of the ideas here have valid points, but i think it'll be difficult to implement them correctly. how do you distinguish between someone who's afk or simply a leech?
relying on other players to report a single afkler can also lead to missuse. what's to stop 7 players from reporting someone who actually played just because they thought he did a bad job? the only way for this to work impartially is to have anet audit the activity during a mission. and even that can be avoided by using either bots or pressing W every once in a while.
however, should anet find a way to actually detect bots and such, i think it would be a nice idea to have titles for those chars diplayed which they can't remove. that way they'll be branded as afklers for all to see. you could even try and expand that system to include chronic leavers during missions. obviously you'll need to consider those who get an error 007.

bot ftl. The main problems are : touch of a button can be done by a beginner programmer with autohotkey, just need a timer. Teams shouldn't need a sense of encouragement, they should be mature enough to deal with a spoil sport without retaliating. This idea promotes the immaturity of "I don't like it, let's kill it". Then you get the fact that someone could powerlevel off of this, by having 2 or more really good guilds friends with dwayna's light.

There are many threads like this already. Sorry, but I'm going to have to close it. Please do a search before you post.
As far as Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry go, the most recent patch may solve that issue. We'll see.
